Covid death toll in Czech Republic passes 25,000

Over 25,000 people are now known to have died with the coronavirus in the Czech Republic. The death toll climbed to 25,055 in the latest official figures released on Tuesday morning. More than half of the victims have died in 2021.

On Monday 8,167 new Covid cases were recorded, a fall of around 2,500 on the same day the previous week. This continues a two-week trend of falling newly confirmed infections.

The coronavirus reproduction number stood at 0.853 on Monday, its lowest level for two months.
