Covid cases slowly climbing with start of new school year

The Czech Republic registered 306 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, which is 95 more than on the same day a week ago, according to Czech Health Ministry data. Close to 100,000 tests were conducted on that day. The reproduction number is now at 1.12, up from 1.05 on Thursday, at its highest since August 12. The incidence of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days is now highest in Karlovy Vary with 27 new cases. Although the situation is still relatively stable compared to neighbouring Germany and Austria, the health authorities have warned there is likely to be an escalation in cases with the start of the new school year.
