Moderna vaccine delivery delayed until Tuesday

The delivery of the COVID-19 Moderna vaccine, which was originally supposed to arrive on Monday, has been delayed until Tuesday. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš originally said that the first 20,000 doses of the vaccine would arrive on Monday for distribution in the Moravian-Silesian Region. However, Czech Television later reported that the first delivery is set to arrive on Tuesday in 8,000 doses.

Since late December, about 40,000 people have received the first dose of a vaccine made by Pfizer and BioNTech. Under the government’s strategy, 179,000 people should be inoculated in January, mainly frontline medical workers, the elderly and infirmed.

Vaccination of the general public, who do not fall into the risk categories, could start in May, Ministry of Health epidemiological group head Roman Chlíbek told Czech Television.
