Covid-19 deaths top 10,000 in Czech Republic

More than 10,000 people infected with coronavirus have died in the Czech Republic since the pandemic began. That amounts to roughly 1.67 percent total number of 600,000 registered cases to date, according to Ministry of Health data.

On Wednesday, the first day of a national campaign screening, 8,235 new infections were reported, a rise of 1,822 compared to the same day last week. Some 15,500 took a free antigen test on Wednesday and over 16,000 had registered for one on Thursday.

The reproduction rate of the virus continues to be around 1.20 and the epidemiological risk index has remained the same at a value of 71 out of 100. The infection rate remains lowest in Prague and highest in the Moravian-Silesian and Zlín regions.
