Covid-19: Czechia has second-highest new infection, death rates in EU
The Czech Republic recorded the second-highest rate of new coronavirus infections and deaths per capita in the European Union in the two weeks ending on January 17.
Ireland, with 1,444 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, had the higher infection rate during that period, while the Czech Republic recorded 1,362 cases. Slovenia registered 231 deaths per 100,000 people and this country 223.
There have been 15,130 Covid-19 deaths in the Czech Republic to date. In January, the daily death toll has regularly exceeded 150, down from over 200 in November.
