Covid-19: Cases drop, PES risk level remains at 57

On Wednesday, there were 4,931 confirmed new coronavirus cases in the Czech Republic, about 600 fewer than a week ago and 900 less than the previous day, Ministry of Health data show. As of Tuesday, 5,413 people were in hospital, of whom 815 were in serious condition. About 50 Covid-19 patients died on Wednesday.

The Counter-Epidemic Score (PES) has remained at 57 (on a scale of 100) for several days, at the third of five levels of risk alertness. The PES is calculated from the reproduction number (now at 0.96), the rate of positive test results over the past seven days, the total number of cases and those among seniors.

The Central Crisis Staff is meeting on Sunday to assess developments. Its chairman, Interior Minister Jan Hamáček, said the spread of Covid-19 has not slowed sufficiently to consider easing restrictions, as the number of cases is still rising in certain regions.
