Cost of fighting North Bohemia fire to reach hundreds of millions

The response to major forest fires in the Bohemian Switzerland National Park in North Bohemia over the last week and a half will likely cost hundreds of millions of crowns, the Czech News Agency said.

The head of the Czech national fire service, Vladimír Vlček, said on Wednesday that the cost of deploying fire brigades alone was around CZK 20 million a day. Around 1,000 fire officers have helped to fight the blaze, which has been attributed to human carelessness.

At one point smoke from the unprecedented wildfire could be smelled over large parts of Czechia, including Prague.
