Committee recommends authorities investigate handling of secret information by President’s Office

The Security Committee of the Lower House of Parliament on Thursday recommended that the National Security Office and the Ministry of Interior investigate whether the Office of the President complied with the requirements for the protection of classified information. The recommendation pertains to the shredding of a secret report on the alleged involvement of Russian secret services in a series of deadly explosions in a munitions depot in Vrbětice, Moravia. The weekly Respekt reported last week that the case is being investigated by the police. The 2014 explosions at the munitions depot killed two people and caused close to a billion crowns in damages, disrupting life in nearby villages. Czech intelligence traced the blasts to two agents from the Russian military intelligence service GRU who were in the close vicinity at the time.
