Commemorating singer and actress Anna Slováčková, following her death at 29

Anna Slováčková

This week's Sunday Music Show is a celebration of a colourful life cut short by illness. After a long battle with cancer, singer Anna Julie Slováčková passed away on April 6th, at the young age of 29. The singer became famous, above all, as a musical performer and actress.

The daughter of actress Dagmar Patrasová and saxophonist Felix Slováček, Anna Slováčková began her career in 2014, appearing in the musical The Snow Queen, in which she starred as Gerda. She continued to appear in theatre, and also performed with her father's Big Band and the Karel Vlach Orchestra, among others. She also worked as a television presenter and as a singer in her group Aura.

In 2019, after being diagnosed with breast cancer, she underwent chemotherapy and a successful operation. However, the disease returned in 2023, this time in the form of lung cancer. Ms. Slováčková spoke openly about her diagnosis publicly. "I've begun to live in the present," the singer often emphasised.

She constantly encouraged her fans not to underestimate the symptoms and to be proactive about cancer prevention. She also spoke openly about the medical treatments she was undergoing, participating in various projects that supported cancer patients. Together with the singer Pokáč, they recorded a duet titled 'Although We Are Bald'.

Anna Slováčková passed away at home, surrounded by her family, on April 6th 2025, at the age of just 29. We offer a selection from the music that she left us during her life.
