Coalition lawmakers seek to remove statute of limitations for premeditated murder

A group of coalition lawmakers from ANO, Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) and the Motorists party has proposed abolishing the statute of limitations for premeditated murder and several other intentional homicide offences.

The amendment would also apply to selected crimes related to public endangerment, terrorism and terror offences carrying the possibility of exceptional sentences. It was submitted as part of a broader amendment expanding criminal liability for failure to pay child support.

Under current Czech law, murder cases are subject to a 30-year statute of limitations, after which criminal liability expires.
