Close to two-fifths of LGBT+ individuals say they experienced harassment and insults
Nearly two-fifths of people who identify as LGBT+ in Czechia have experienced harassment and insults towards their orientation or identity over the past year, according to a study conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health and the Queer Geography group. Meanwhile, over the past five years, nearly a fifth of the questioned individuals have reported being assaulted or faced the threat of violence.
One of the authors of the study, Michal Pitoňák, said that seven out of ten people believe that rude statements by politicians in this regard are widespread, a rise by around 30 percent when compared to the same study conducted five years ago.
Two thirds of respondents were gays, bisexuals and lesbians, with one third made up of individuals identifying as having another orientation.
