Clean-up work underway following gale-force winds

Clean up work is underway in many regions of the country following gale-force winds bordering on a hurricane in places on Sunday.

Emergency crews worked around-the-clock to clear rail tracks and roads of fallen trees and restore power to thousands of households. Over 53,000 households were left without power on Sunday.

The wind storm claimed one victim and injured several people. Rail transport was disrupted throughout the day with hour long delays. Energy providers said power would be fully restored to all households in the course of Monday.
