Chamber supports proposed ban on sale of energy drinks to children under 15

The Chamber of Deputies has endorsed a proposed ban on selling and serving energy drinks to children under 15 in the first round of discussions. Under the proposal, sales through vending machines and online platforms would be permitted only if the ages of buyers are verified.

The restrictions, which also extend to advertising, would be comparable to those placed on alcohol and cigarettes, according to an amendment by MPs to the Act on the Protection of Health against the Harmful Effects of Addictive Substances.

The draft legislation has sparked debate but overcame an attempt by Karel Haas to have it rejected and has now been referred to the Health and Education Committee and the Family Affairs Committee for further review.
