Chamber approves amendment to speed up permits of steam-gas energy sources

The amendment to the Energy Act, nicknamed “Lex Gas,” adopted on Wednesday by the Chamber of Deputies, is intended to speed up the permitting process for new steam-gas energy sources. These steam-gas power plants are expected to ensure sufficient capacity for electricity generation during the expected upcoming coal phase-out.

According to an earlier statement by Prime Minister Petr Fiala, this measure will help Czechia avoid dependence on foreign electricity imports. The proposal could shorten the permitting process by up to five years. The bill will now be submitted to the Senate for consideration, and if approved, it will be sent to the president for signature.
