CEZ boss: Gas prices could rise two-thirds next year

The CEO of Czech energy giant CEZ, Daniel Beneš, says he estimates that electricity prices will rise in the Czech Republic by around a third from next year, while gas prices will be half to two-thirds more expensive. He made the comment in an interview for Monday’s edition of business daily Hospodářské noviny.

CEZ is set to announce price rises at the start of November that will come into effect at the beginning of next year.

Mr. Beneš pointed out that wholesale energy prices in Europe had reached record levels this year.
