Cave divers successfully undertake two-day route through Amatérská Cave system

Three cave divers managed to walk and swim along the demanding route through the Amatérská Caves system in the Moravian Karst over Friday and Saturday. They completed the 7.5 km route, with about a kilometre of it being underwater. According to one of the participants, Jan Sirotek, no one had dived there for forty years and the entire route had to be rediscovered and equipped with guide lines.

Jan Sirotek, Radek Nejezchleb and Petr Chmel spent the night in the cave system. It is the longest cave route that can be undertaken in Czechia. "Nothing critical happened to us, but we had some minor problems. A few things fell underwater, we had to look for them afterwards because we felt sorry to leave them there," said Mr. Sirotek. The three brave divers were accompanied by several support teams; in total over eighty speleologists from fifteen clubs of the Czech Speleological Society took part in the event. The extreme and logistically demanding feat is unprecedented in the history of Czech speleology.
