Bychkov to become music director of Paris National Opera

Russian-born American conductor Semyon Bychkov, currently chief conductor and music director of the Czech Philharmonic, will become the new music director of the Paris National Opera. The news was reported by Radio France, citing the opera house.

Bychkov has said he will step down from his role with the Czech Philharmonic in 2028, after completing his tenth season with the orchestra. He has led the Czech Philharmonic since 2018, taking over after the death of Jiří Bělohlávek.

Born in Leningrad, now St. Petersburg, Bychkov emigrated to the United States in 1975 and later became an American citizen. Over his career, he has conducted many of the world’s leading orchestras.
