Blatný rules out transfer of Cheb patients to Germany

The minister of health, Jan Blatný, says that moving Covid patients from an overburdened hospital in Cheb in Northwestern Bohemia across the border into Germany is not a feasible approach; German hospitals are also under strain and could only take in a small number, he said.

Mr. Blatný was speaking on a visit to Cheb, which currently has one of the highest infection rates in the country. Patients are being ferried from there to hospitals in other parts of the Czech Republic by helicopter.

The Czech government has previously turned down offers of help from hospitals in Saxony and Bavaria.
