Biochemist: Czech Republic close to achieving herd immunity
The Czech Republic is close to achieving herd immunity and it makes sense to stop covering the cost of Covid-19 tests from health insurance as of September, biochemist Zdeněk Hostomský said in an interview for CNN Prima News.
According to health statistics over 1.7 million Czechs have undergone Covid-19 and over 4 million people are now fully vaccinated. Hostomský moreover argues that the actual number of people who have contracted the virus in the past year is likely to be much higher.
Hostomský says the main problem now is that over half a million people aged over 65 are not vaccinated, which is reason to continue to observe the strict hygiene measures in place and push ahead with vaccinations. The Czech Republic has 10.6 million inhabitants.
