Berlin Czech Centre officially opens in new venue

The Czech Centre in the German capital Berlin officially opened at a new location on Monday. The institution has moved from the city’s Czech Embassy to the Berlin headquarters of the analogous Goethe Institute as the former will soon undergo major renovation work.

The distinctive Czech Embassy was designed by the architects Věra and Vladimír Machonin, who were also behind buildings such as the Kotva department store in Czechoslovakia. The 1970s Brutalist structure requires renovation to reduce high energy costs.
