Bank profits rise to over CZK 54 billion in first half of 2022
Banks and insurance companies in Czechia saw their aggregate net profits rise by CZK 23.6 billion to CZK 54.61 billion in the first half of 2022, according to data from the Czech National Bank. Meanwhile, interest income increased by CZK 104.6 billion to CZK 186.1 billion.
The government is considering issuing a windfall tax on banks, the Czech News Agency reported on Monday, but have not yet announced details of the plan. They expect that it could bring around CZK 70 billion into the budget. Finance Minister Zbyněk Stanjura has said in the past that the tax should concern energy companies, banks and refineries.
