Babiš would resume consultations with Slovakia if ANO participates in government
ANO leader Andrej Babiš would like to resume intergovernmental consultations with Slovakia if the ANO movement participates in the cabinet. The government of current Prime Minister Petr Fiala suspended the consultations last March due to differences of opinion on key foreign policy issues, primarily regarding Ukraine. Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský said late last year that the time had not yet come to resume joint meetings.
"Of course," Babiš said when asked whether he would like to resume the consultations. "We have a lot of topics in common with the Slovaks," he added. He criticized Prime Minister Fiala for "destroying" the Visegrád Group (V4), which also includes Poland and Hungary. Under Fiala's government, joint contacts between these countries have been significantly reduced, partly because of the different views on foreign policy of Czechia and Poland on the one hand, and Slovakia and Hungary on the other.
