Babiš urges fuel distributors to cut prices as Czech fuel costs hit 3.5-year highPrime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) has called on major fuel distributors Orlen, MOL and OMV to lower fuel prices and not exploit the conflict in the Middle East. In a post on Facebook on Thursday, he said the situation should also be examined by the Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS).
Fuel prices in the Czech Republic have climbed to their highest level in about three and a half years following the war in the Middle East, which began on 28 February. According to data from CCS, the average price of Natural 95 petrol rose by 2.40 crowns over the past week to 41.44 crowns per litre, while diesel increased by 4.75 crowns to an average of 47.90 crowns per litre.
Petrol is cheapest in the South Bohemian Region, while diesel costs least in the Zlín Region. The highest fuel prices in the country remain in Prague. Orlen said it operates in accordance with the law and that fuel prices are determined by the market.
