Babiš says being PM suits him better than presidential role

The former Czech prime minister Andrej Babiš says that heading a government is a role that suits him better than being president. Though there has been speculation that he will stand to succeed Miloš Zeman as head of state, the ANO leader has yet to declare as a candidate.

Mr. Babiš told Saturday’s edition of the newspaper Lidové noviny that during a series of meetings with the public voters had called on him not to run for head of state and that they wanted him back as PM.

The billionaire businessman said that he was a manager and that it was necessary to take action rather than “send signals”.

Polls suggest that if he stood for president he would come first in the first round but lose in a second-round run-off.
