Babiš: No immediate plans to increase Covid restrictions

For the next several days, the government is not planning to increase restrictions to counter the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš told Czech Television on Wednesday.

Mr Babiš said that some ideas were present at Monday’s meeting of the Government Council for Health Risks, but that these have not yet been given the green light by the clinical group. According to news site iDnes.cz, Health Minister Adam Vojtěch is preparing tougher rules on mass events which could include only accepting PCR tests from attendees.

The Czech Republic is currently facing a significant upswing in the number of daily coronavirus cases. Wednesday saw numbers of infected reach March figures, when the country was in quarantine. Meanwhile, hospitalisations have more than doubled over the past two weeks. The government is currently focusing on incentivising more people to get vaccinated.
