Babiš to ask MPs to extend state of emergency beyond Feb 28

The government will ask the Chamber of Deputies to extend the current state of emergency due to expire on February 28, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš told reporters after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday morning.

Mr Babiš said measures connected to the draft Pandemic Law are insufficient to address the covid-19 crisis, and the government will consider tightening them. In the afternoon, his cabinet will meet with opposition leaders, business and trade unions representatives and the National Economic Council (NERV) to discuss the economic impact.
