Australian Open: Vondroušová beats Cîrstea to reach round 16

Czech tennis player Markéta Vondroušová has reached the round 16 of the Australian Open. On Friday, she defeated Sorana Cîrstea of Romania, who had previously eliminated Vondroušová’s compatriot Petra Kvitová, in two sets (6-2, 6-4).

In final round of the last sixteen, the 21-year-old faces Hsieh Su-wei of Taiwan, on Sunday. A second Czech woman is also certain to make round 16, since on Saturday compatriots Karolína Plíšková and Karolína Muchová take to the court. Plíšková, ranked no.6 in the world, is the favourite.
