Around 6,000 homes without power due to wind

Around 6,000 households in Czechia, more than a third of which were in the Pardubice region, were without power on Saturday morning due to strong winds. A further 1,100 were in Vysočina and around a thousand in South Moravia, the Czech News Agency reports.

Energy company ČEZ recorded over 8,000 supply points without power around 3 a.m. on Saturday. By the morning, that number had decreased to around 2,500, but at around 11 a.m. it increased once again to around 3,000. Rival company EG.D also registered roughly 3,000 customers without power in its supply network.

The strong winds, accompanied by snowfall in some areas, are also causing disruption to transport. Firefighters have been called out to dozens of sites of fallen branches or trees blocking railways and roads. The road from Tanvald to Harrachov has been closed to trucks since midnight. The meteorological office's warning for strong winds remains in effect until Saturday evening.
