The army will conduct a training exercise near the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant starting Monday
A training exercise called SAFEGUARD 2026 will begin on Monday, May 18, near the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant. Its aim is to test preparedness for ensuring external protection of one of the most heavily guarded facilities in the Czech Republic. The exercise will be closed to the public and will take place both within the plant area and its surroundings.
“During the exercise, soldiers of the Czech Army will be moving in the area. Training gunfire or smoke effects may be heard or seen, and no reaction is necessary. The exercise has no impact on employees or on the normal life of the public,” said Jana Štefánková, spokesperson for the plant, regarding the planned event.
She added that troops will begin arriving at the Dukovany plant on Monday, May 18, and will remain in the area until Thursday, May 21.
