After the fall of communism in the Czech Republic, Russian wasn't a language most Czechs wanted to study anymore, especially as it had been compulsory in schools for so long. But when Radio Prague was looking for staff for its newly re-founded Russian section, there was no shortage of young Czechs looking to apply.
