Arctic cold threatens fruit crops in Czechia

Very cold Arctic air is expected to arrive in Czechia this weekend, bringing freezing temperatures at night and putting apricots and other fruit trees already in bloom at risk. The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute warned that Sunday morning and the following nights will be critical.

Fruit growers have been struggling with spring frosts in recent years. Last year, almost all fruit in Bohemia was damaged by frost, while Moravia fared better, though not well. Meteorologists say the likelihood of damage to blooming trees from spring frosts is increasing due to ongoing climate change.
