Another three cases of Omicron confirmed in Czechia

Another three cases of infection with the Omicron coronavirus variant have been confirmed in the Czech Republic. Two employees of the Teaching Hospital in Brno and a child in a local primary school were diagnosed with the highly contagious strain of the virus on Thursday, bringing the total number of cases to five.

Omicron was first identified in Southern Africa. The first case in was confirmed in the Czech Republic last week, when a woman from Liberec tested positive for the variant after returning from Namibia by plane.

The Czech Republic has imposed travel restrictions on people returning from a number of southern African nations. Travellers who spent more than 12 hours in South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Zambia or Mozambique must quarantine for 10 days upon arrival.
