Another 37 migrants arrested in Zlín region in 24-hour period
Police officers in the Zlín region arrested another 37 migrants in the 24-hour period from 7:00 on Saturday to 7:00 on Sunday, returning nine across the border to Slovakia.
The border with Slovakia is currently being patrolled by hundreds of police officers, assisted by soldiers and customs officers, at 27 former border crossings in the Czech Republic. In the Zlín Region, they are patrolling seven road border crossings and two railway ones.
Increased numbers of migrants have been coming into the region since May, and by September 28, police had registered over 3,150 of them. Controls on the border with Slovakia were reintroduced on September 29 and are supposed to remain there until October 28. Since border checks were introduced, police in the Zlín Region have arrested a total of 1,152 migrants and 14 traffickers, denied entry to the Czech Republic to 96, and returned another 78 to the territory of Slovakia. Migrants detained in the region are transported by the police to a migration centre in Holešov in the Kroměříž region.
