Alanis Morissette and Rag’n’bone Man in Prague for star-studded Metronome festival
The 8th edition of the Prague Metronome festival kicked off on Thursday. Headlining the show are Canadian singer Alanis Morissette, making her long-awaited return to Prague, and English vocalist Rag’n’bone Man. Both artists perform on Saturday – the final day of the festival.
Morissette, who last performed in Czechia in 2008, comes with the reputation of a generation-defining artist of the 1990s as the "Queen of Alt Rock Angst", something which particularly excites festival producer David Gaydečka.
“It’s going to be a show full of legendary songs – exactly what one would expect from Alanis,” he says. Fans can look forward to hit singles such as You Oughta Know, Ironic, and Hand in My Pocket.
Rag’n’bone Man, blending notes of blues and soul with his unmistakable deep voice, also brings a proofed list of billboard singles. His hit song Human went top of the charts in over 15 countries, and swooped the Brit Awards in 2018.
On Friday evening, the Metronome stage will welcome Estonian artist Tommy Cash, who made waves at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. He finished third overall with his satiric song Espresso Macchiato. Die Antwoord, a South-African hip-hop and rave duo known for their provocative public image, will also perform on the night.
Thursday’s line-up consisted mainly of domestic artists, notably Michal Prokop and Monika Načeva. Other big names of the Czech music scene, such as Aneta Langerová and Barbora Poláková will take the stage on Saturday.
Following last year’s complaints, organizers have made adjustments to minimize noise pollution in the festival’s surroundings. One of such are set closing times – 10pm on Thursday, 10.45pm of Friday, and 11.45pm on Saturday.
