African swine fever confirmed in Liberec region

African swine fever has reappeared in the Czech Republic after a 10-month break, with a new case confirmed in a dead wild boar found in the Frýdlant area of the Liberec region. The virus prompted the authorities to expand the restricted zone to over half the region’s territory. Protective measures remain in force to prevent the spread to domestic pig herds. The disease, nearly always fatal for infected animals, has no cure and requires immediate culling.
