Activists raise flag of non-binary Madonna on Marian Column in Prague
Police in Prague have cancelled an unplanned event. of several activists, who raised a “non-binary Madonna“ flag on the balustrade of the Marian Column on Old Town Square and prayed in front of it, the Czech News Agency reported on Wednesday.
An artist named Darina Alster said that she wanted the event to raise awareness about oppression faced by LGBTQ individuals and eco-activists. Alster claimed that the Czech Catholic Church is heading in the direction of its counterpart in Poland.
Police spokeswoman Irena Seifertova said that municipal police were patrolling the area when they noticed a large group of people standing around the Marian Column and upon investigation found that this was a religious gathering. They asked Darina Alster to remove the flag from the column, which she subsequently did.
