Academics petition government for better wages

Czech academics from the humanities and social sciences presented a petition with 4,000 signatures to the Ministry of Education on Friday morning, asking for better wages and more funding for their fields. The date was chosen to coincide with the deadline for submitting documentation to the education department relating to the financing of universities.

The Hour of Truth initiative, as the protest movement against the chronic underfunding of the humanities in Czechia is called, previously also organised a nationwide demonstration on 28 March, Teachers’ Day.
