94 killed on Czech roads this summer, highest toll since 2021

Ninety-four people lost their lives in road accidents across Czechia during the summer holidays, six more than a year ago. It is the highest toll since 2021, when 100 people were killed, according to preliminary police figures.

The number of accidents actually fell to 14,159, down by 2,250 compared to last summer. Serious injuries also decreased, with 293 cases recorded, nearly a hundred fewer than last year.

Among the victims were more cyclists (14, up by six) and pedestrians (10, twice as many as last year). Fatalities among car drivers rose slightly to 33, while motorcycle deaths dropped to 21, eight fewer than in 2023.

Since the start of the year, road crashes in Czechia have claimed 275 lives, 18 fewer than in the same period last year. The number of seriously injured also declined to 1,042, down by 39.
