40% of Czech farms report zero or loss in 2024, says Farmers' Union

Forty percent of Czech farms ended 2024 with zero or a loss, according to a survey by the Agricultural Association of the Czech Republic. The sector’s total profit dropped to CZK 3.7 billion, down CZK 2.6 billion from the previous year. The average profit per farm was CZK 123,000, while profit per hectare fell from CZK 1,800 to CZK 1,060.

The association’s chairman Martin Pýcha attributed the decline to rising costs, particularly for wages, energy, and rent. He noted that agricultural profits have dropped by more than half over the past 20 years, with 2022 being the peak at CZK 22 billion. However, he expects an improvement in 2025, projecting profits at CZK 5.4 billion.
