25 percent of Czech roads in bad condition

In a separate investigation, the Czech Supreme Audit Office discovered that nearly a quarter of all Czech roads are in a very bad condition and require expensive repair work. The Office said the main reason for the situation was poor distribution of money by the transport ministry, which it said ignored the actual wear and tear of roads as a result of increased volume of traffic.

Since 1990, the volume of road transport quadrupled, while paradoxically, funds allocated for road maintenance decreased by a third. That means the state will have to spend much more in the future to bring all roads up to an optimal condition.
