2021 Czech death rate highest since war
The number of deaths in the Czech Republic last year reached 139,600, the highest figure seen since the end of World War II. There were 10,000 more deaths in 2021 than in 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic first hit the country, according to official figures released on Tuesday.
The death rate among men increased by 10 percent year-on-year, while among women it was 6 percent higher.
Life expectancy for women in the Czech Republic declined by 0.8 years to 80.6. For men the fall was 1.1 years to 74.2.
