2014 – 97th Segment: “Wine”

On January 1st, a new civil code was put into effect.
The Winter Olympics were held from February 7th to February 23rd in Sochi, Russia. The Czechs won eight medals; a record for the Czech Republic (or even Czechoslovakia) in the Winter Games.
On September 20th, the Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Army, Petr Pavel, was elected as Chairman of the NATO Military Committee.
On October 16th, an explosion occurred in ammunition warehouse No. 16, in Vrbětice. Two warehouse employees were killed and there was an evacuation of inhabitants in adjacent municipalities.
The year 2014 marked the beginning of a new Czech comedy series, “Wine Makers,” from the winemaking region of Southern Moravia. The series’ second season was nominated for the Czech Lion Award for Best Television Drama Series. The subheading of the series reads, “the series about wine and the people around it.”
It is not surprising that the theme song is called “Wine.” This was the first single from Chinaski’s new album. It was written by the band’s singer Michal Malátný, who composed the accompanying music along with František Táborský and Zdeněk Vřešťal.
