In this series we present 100 songs which have gone down in the history of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic. On Czech Radio’s web pages you can find a poll, in which you can vote for the best hit from the past century. We continue with the year 2007.

On January 8 the supply of Russian oil via the Druzhba pipeline was interrupted.

On June 21 the first cases of bird flu appeared in the Czech Republic.

On December 21 nine countries, including the Czech Republic, joined the Schengen zone.

On January 28, Karel Svoboda, a leading Czech song composer, passed away.

The melody and lyrics of the 2007 hit Touha, or Desire, were written for the film Kvaska by Daniel Landa. The movie, a musical, was written and directed by his wife, Miriam Landa. It was later adapted into a stage musical.

Daniel Landa has also enjoyed some international success with another musical Krysař, a take on the Pied Piper story. As well as doing music he is also an occasional actor, scriptwriter, martial arts fighter and racing driver.
