13-year-old Czech boy killed in avalanche in Austria

A 13-year-old boy died on Tuesday while skiing in the Austrian resort of Bad Gastein near Salzburg after being caught in an avalanche. Austrian media have reported that he was a Czech national, which was confirmed by the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.

The boy was skiing off-piste when the avalanche struck. According to the Austrian Press Agency APA, rescue teams managed to free him but were unable to revive him despite 45 minutes of resuscitation efforts.
