This is our final segment of our series Hit of the Century presenting 100 songs which have gone down in the history of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic. On Czech Radio’s web pages you can find a poll, in which you can vote for the best hit from the past century. The last song of the series if from the year 2017.

After years of debating, Parliament members passed a smoking ban in restaurants.

In October, Andrej Babiš’s political party, ANO, won the parliamentary elections.

On June 15th, the sculptor, Olbram Zoubek, passed away.

It seems incredible that the hit song of the century may be based on the motto of one of the Czech Republic’s most popular personalities, Olympian Emil Zátopek.

“When you can’t anymore, keep going. Just shout at the top of your lungs, that the word can’t does not exist.” This is the beginning of the song’s refrain, from which the title is derived. It is clear that the band Mirai’s inspiration was this legendary runner.

The song gained popularity from the moment it aired on Czech radio stations. Band members Mirai Navratil, Michal Stulík and Šimon Bílý won a number of awards for the song, including the 2017 Czech Nightingale Discovery of the Year Award and many nominations for the Angel Music Awards.

Vote for the best song of the century!
