Zátopek dominates Czech Lion awards

Zátopek, a biopic about the eponymous athlete who won four olympic gold medals, won the Czech Lion award for best Czech film on Saturday, as well as seven other awards including best direction and best actor (Václav Neužil). The annual awards ceremony took place in Prague’s Rudolfinum any many of the attending artists chose to express their solidarity with Ukraine when they spoke on the podium.

The second most successful film this year was Occupation (Okupace), which depicts life during the normalisation era after the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. It won three awards, for best actress in a supporting role (Antonie Formanová), best script and best soundtrack.
