WWII veteran Jarmila Halbrštátová dies at 96

One of the last female veterans of the Second World War, Jarmila Halbrštátová, has died at the age of 96, Defence Minister Lubomír Metnar informed on his Twitter account.

Colonel Jarmila Halbrštátová, who was trained as a medic and radio operator, joined the Czechoslovak army corps in 1942 in the town of Buzuluk. Among other things, she participated in the battle for the town of Sokolovo in 1943 and in the Carpathian-Dukla operation.

Last year, she received a medal for bravery from President Miloš Zeman.
