Vatican approves beatification process of Jesuit priest Stredonius

The Vatican has approved the process of beatifying the 17th century Jesuit priest and student chaplain Martin Středa, also known as Stredonius, who helped defend the city when under siege by Swedish forces in the final stage of the Thirty Years’ War.

The beatification of Stredonius, which is the first step on the path to sainthood, was initiated by Brno Bishop Vojtěch Cikrle with the support of other Czech and Moravian bishops. The beatification process will be conducted by the Czech Province of the Society of Jesus.
