Unseasonably warm weather breaks records for three days in succession
Unseasonably warm weather has been breaking temperature records for three days in a row. Sunday’s temperature of 13.4 degrees Celsius broke records at 74 of the country’s 160 monitoring stations some of which have been operating for over a century.
The first day of the year was the warmest New Year's Day on record, according to data released by the Hydro-Meteorological Institute. The temperature reached 15.7 degrees Celsius in Kopisty in the Most region breaking the previous record of 14.5 degrees from Valašské Meziříčí from 1936.
The last day of 2021 was also very warm, with a high of 15.3 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists have warned that the thaw which is melting snow in the mountains will raise the water levels of smaller rivers and springs.
