Social Democrat leader Jan Hamáček to resign after poor election result

Social Democrat chairman Jan Hamáček has said he will step down from the leadership post.

The statement came on Saturday after the party failed to breach the 5 percent threshold to win seats in the lower house of Parliament, its worst result in three decades.

Mr Hamáček intends to resign when the party leadership meets on October 25.
